Until 1988, the bowl cutter Wilhelm Jacob made wooden knife handles for the cutlery industry in Solingen in the last Kotten in Langenfeld. After his death, the Kotten was carefully inventoried and documented scientifically and then dismantled. In 2007, the historical workshop in the Volksgarten was partially reconstructed, protected from wind and weather by a modern glass building.

Public tours in Schalenschneider-Kotten take place every first Sunday of the month at 11 a.m.
