Christmas markets and winter walks in neanderland

Tips from the winter forest to adventure gifts

NEANDERLAND/METTMANN DISTRICT. Pre-Christmas hustle and bustle at markets, relaxed silence in the winter forest or a regional adventure gift: the Advent season in neanderland invites you to stroll, hike and shop in equal measure. If you like, you can easily combine everything and warm up with a hot drink after a tour of the neanderland STEIG and its discovery loops at one of the numerous Christmas markets.

The tranquil pyramid market in Haan is already open. On weekends there is live music and on 6.12. children can meet Santa Claus from 16 p.m. to 18 p.m. For a long walk, there is the discovery loop "Haan inner city route", which leads not only into the city area, but also to stream valleys and secluded forest paths. Also open is the Ratinger Christmas market, which creates a special ambience. A demanding hike leads to the 17 km long "Ratingen pur" discovery loop.

A classic is the recently opened Blotschenmarkt in Mettmann around the historic St. Lambertus church. On a tour of the nearby Stindertal discovery loop with Neandertal, hikers not only roam through two of the most beautiful forest valleys in the district, but also pass the Neanderthal Museum. A day trip that charmingly combines nature, human history and Christmas tradition.

If you want to wander through a Christmas forest with fir trees in the middle of a city, you can do so from December 8th to 12.12th. right on the Rathausplatz in Heiligenhaus. Things get sporty at the Sternenzauber Markt in Monheim am Rhein with curling and an ice skating rink. If that's not enough action for you, you can do another lap on the 5 km long "Monheimer Altstadtrunde" discovery loop, which is ideal for families.

Instead of arts and crafts from the Christmas market, experiences from TYPISCH neanderland are also available as gift ideas: In the LandGASThaus Bibelskirch in Mettmann, participants learn how to bake bread, go forest bathing with Brigitte Ulrich from Ratingen and the pirate escape room in the event restaurant Neandertal No. 1 in Erkrath.
