This discovery loop connects the wonderful nature of the Monheimer Rheinbogen with the exciting sights and quaint restaurants of Monheim's old town and city center. Discover the carnival tradition in the carnival cabinet, enjoy the tranquility in the Marienburg Park and delight in the Rhenish hospitality of the Monheim innkeepers.
The Monheim discovery loop begins in the Rheinbogen landscape park with its wide range of leisure activities for families and sports enthusiasts. The natural footpath leads you from here first up to Marienburg. This impressive manorial villa was built in the 19th century as a summer house for the Cologne lawyer and politician Eugen von Kesseler. Today it serves as a conference and congress center. It is surrounded by the park of the same name, which as a green oasis in the city center offers a wonderful view of the Rhine foreland.
We continue to the rustic old town of Monheim. Exciting sights such as the carnival cabinet and the Schelmenturm, the symbol of the city, await you here. Around the Alter Markt numerous restaurants, beer gardens and cafés invite you to have a bite to eat.
The discovery loop then takes you via Monheim's central shopping street to the Marienkapelle. Pilgrims have been coming here by land and water since the Middle Ages, because the miraculous image in the altar is believed to work miracles. The former home of the painter August Deusser is in the immediate vicinity. Built around 1840, it now houses the local history collection of Monheim am Rhein. Here you meet the neanderland STEIG again, which takes you back to the Monheimer Rheinbogen via the Rhine bank promenade.
