Velbert to Essen-Kettwig
After starting near the large railway bridge in Velbert, the so-called Saubrücke, the route heads towards Rinderbach. This little river dominates the first half of this stage. Impressive flood retention basins bear witness to the now tamed elemental power of the Rinderbach. It continues past the abbot's kitchen pond into a beautiful valley section north of Heiligenhaus, into paradise.
In the second half of the stage we hike north in the direction of the Ruhr, which we reach near Isenbügel. A gigantic view of the Ruhr and Kettwig gets you in the mood for the finale of the stage, which ends just before the S-Bahn station Kettwig-Stausee at the Rindersberger Mühle. A stage of the great rivers of the region: Ruhr and Rinderbach.
