8,62 km long
regional hiking trail
Moderately difficult stage that begins with several sporty climbs, but runs on the last few kilometers almost on a level above the Ruhr Valley. Narrow paths, great forests and streams alternate constantly.

Essen-Kettwig to Mülheim-Selbeck

We start at the Rindersberger Mühle, which can look back on an impressive 550-year history. Then it goes quickly up into the forest, and we experience: fallen trees, narrow forest paths, rushing streams. Always up and down again.

The neanderland STEIG is wildly romantic around Landsberg Castle. The castle has belonged to the Thyssen family for over a hundred years. The remains of the extensive forest park can still be seen. We continue past fields and paddocks and reach the Mintarder Berg district of Ratingen at the end of a mini-canyon. Then just take the motorway and we are in Selbeck, in the south of Mülheim/Ruhr.

Good to know

safety instructions

Please stay on the paths. The narrow paths can be slippery in places, especially in wet weather. Be careful with embankments or cliff edges, keep your distance.

Equipment

Good hiking shoes should already be. Depending on the season and the weather, a jacket is a must along the many cool streams and in the deep forests, as well as on the often windy heights.
