Varied, easy stage, with practically no noticeable gradients. The narrow paths in the Ittertal and the overgrown forests make you forget how close you are to the big city.
Hilden to Dusseldorf-Garath
We start on the Hulsenstraße in Hilden and hike south in the extensive Benrath forest. There we repeatedly come across the “D” marking, this is the Düsseldorfer Weg, which connects the suburbs of the Altbierstadt on the right bank of the Rhine.
We walk briefly on a dam along the Itter, then we return to the city forest, the Garath forest. Not the entire forest belongs to the city, through a barred revolving door we enter a private forest for a while. Don't worry, entry is free!
A few kilometers later we circle the Oerkhaussee with its new bird observation platform. After some time on dirt roads, we dive into a piece of forest and can enjoy beautiful narrow paths and wonderful creek passages. At the end of the stage we walk on the edge of a residential area before we reach our destination at Garath Castle.
