Varied, easy stage, with the lowest point of the entire neanderland STEIG. The stage leads through Auenwald, along the Rhine and through the Monheimer Rheinbogen to the city limits of Leverkusen.
Dusseldorf-Garath to Monheim am Rhein
We start in Garath and walk along the meandering Garather Mühlenbach in the direction of the Rhine. We quickly reach the Urdenbacher Kämpe, a nature reserve in a class of its own: An old branch of the Rhine, diverse flora and fauna, unspoilt meadow orchards and, as a highlight, Haus Bürgel - information point, museum, schnapps distillery, built on the walls of a Roman fort from the 4th century.
Behind Haus Bürgel we reach Father Rhine and walk along the promenade to reach Monheim am Rhein. The Piwipper Böötchen tempts you to take a short trip to the other side of the Rhine. Or rather hiss a beer in Monheim's old town on the Kölsch/Altbier border? We continue hiking through the bend in the Rhine (on the opposite side of the Rhine, Cologne greets you!) and end the stage at Gut Blee.
