What is geocaching?

Geocaching is a modern day treasure hunt or scavenger hunt. The aim is to use GPS to find hidden containers – so-called “caches” – in an open area and then to hide them again in the same place. The lockable caches can contain small gifts and a log book in which finders can write their names. Anyone who has hidden something enters information about this hiding place in a database. Using this data, the players try to track down the cache. You can easily get started with the game via portals such as www.geocaching.com. Beginners can set up a free account here. The app shows you where suitable caches are hidden in the area. There is also a step-by-step description of how to proceed after a find. If you want to try the more complicated multi or puzzle caches, you need a paid premium version of the app. Alternatively, you can also search with a GPS device.
