UNESCO meets UNESCO. At the start of the special exhibition about the only UNESCO World Heritage site in Upper Silesia in the Upper Silesian State Museum, the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra will be a guest at the Zollverein Coal Mine. The performance also marks the 20th anniversary of Poland's accession to the EU. The Silesian Chamber Orchestra is known for its wide-ranging repertoire. As one of three ensembles in the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice, it continually tries out innovative concert formats. At the concert at Zollverein, works by JS Bach enter into dialogue with compositions by Philharmonic director Adam Wesołowski. His “Industrial Symphony” and his “Silver Concerto” combine traditional musical forms with industrial sounds and sound and film recordings from the historic silver mine in Tarnowitz. The concert is the musical prelude to the special exhibition “Silver Fever. The Tarnowitz Mining – the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Upper Silesia”.
