Historical bowl cutter Kotten

PDF

museum/exhibition
With the reconstruction of the historic bowl cutter's workshop in Langenfeld's Volksgarten, an old craft tradition is coming back. The shell cutter Wilhelm Jacobs worked in the last Kotten in Langenfeld-Wiescheid until 1988. Working from home, he made wooden knife handles, the so-called “knife bowls” and “knife handles” for the Solingen cutlery industry. The original inventory dates back to 1920. With the reconstruction of the old Schalenschneider Kotten, an important technical monument of the city of Langenfeld has been preserved and made publicly accessible.
