NEANDERLAND/METTMANN DISTRICT. Whether bathing in the forest, listening to birdsong or "totally calcified" - the response to the more than 35 themed tours at the neanderland HIKING WEEK 2022 was consistently positive.

Around 600 hikers set off from May 7th to 15th to discover well-known and new corners of the region, accompanied by experienced guides.

In addition to green forests and wide views of nature, there were additional highlights. During the bird song hike in the Baumberger Aue in Monheim am Rhein, the participants got to see the rarely seen nightingale. Culinary delights with a variety of recipes to try at home were available at the finger food buffet at “Natur & Steinhof Radtke” in Langenfeld. The routes to the industrial history of neanderland were also praised. "My goal was to explain the geological and historical background to people," explains certified DWV hiking guide Dr. Guido Krautz, who went on his tour "totally calcified" in search of traces of the lime industry in Gruiten.

“The varied offer of the hiking week was well received. Our region still seems to be an insider tip for guests and locals," reports nature awareness trainer Brigitte Ulrich. She received confirmation from Lena Riekemann, employee at neanderland tourism and organizer of the neanderland hiking week. "For hiking fans, this was a great opportunity to get surprising insights into the nature and history of the region or even to discover familiar things from a completely new perspective! We are happy, also for the hiking guides, that they finally had well-booked tours again." Most of the offers were fully booked, so that additional dates were organized. The neanderland hiking week takes place every two years and many guides have already expressed their interest in the next edition.
