Technologies open up opportunities for travel and tourism in the region

NEANDERLAND/METTMANN DISTRICT. Artificial intelligence (AI) and its use in tourism was the topic of the first neanderland network meeting 2024 on Wednesday in the Gartenhotel Fettehenne in Erkrath. Around 50 participants from the hotel, catering and tourism industries in the Mettmann district discussed the opportunities and challenges of AI. A lecture by digital expert and tourism consultant Alexander Mirschel provided inspiring input.

Where can AI be used in tourism businesses in Neanderland? Which workflows can it speed up or improve and ultimately make guests happier?

“Artificial intelligence will fundamentally change our working world in the next few years. This will also open up completely new opportunities for tourism,” explains AI expert Alexander Mirschel. "I am pleased that neanderland addressed this important topic at an early stage and encouraged people to actively try it out as part of the network meeting."

“Alexander Mirschel’s lecture gave us a lot of ideas about how we can use artificial intelligence,” reports Julia Pölcher from destination marketing in the Mettmann district. “The creative use of chatbots is particularly exciting. This could simplify everyday work in the future and make communication with customers and guests smoother.”

In addition to a presentation of best practices, there was an interactive workshop in which participants developed their own ideas for the application of artificial intelligence. The result was, among other things, omniscient avatars for recommending leisure activities and matching systems for bringing together potential network partners.

Afterwards, the group came together again to debate, in some cases very specifically, other AI applications such as text creation for websites or the artificial creation of images. And as with all neanderland network meetings, there was no shortage of exchanges between each other – for example about possible collaborations.

The neanderland network meeting takes place regularly at different locations in the Mettmann district. It is organized by the Destination Marketing District Mettmann, DEHOGA Nordrhein eV and the IHK Düsseldorf.
