Extremely varied stage, moderately difficult with some moderate climbs. Along the Düssel river, the path leads past the historic Gruiten village through idyllic valleys, across pastures and fields towards the Düsselquelle.
Haan-Gruiten to Wülfrath-Düssel
After the start of the stage at Gruiten S-Bahn station, you hike sensationally quickly into the Düsseltal to the idyllic half-timbered village of Gruiten-Dorf. It continues through the Grube 7 nature reserve, a former limestone pit, to the Osterholzer Wald. From there over the hilly heights again on narrow paths into the Düsseltal to Schöller, the place with the Schinderhannesturm.
Then it goes over fields and meadows to Düssel (that's the name of the place, not just the river). Düssel is a jewel of the Bergisches Land, with a moated castle and beautiful places to stop for refreshments. There ends a varied and beautiful mountain and valley stage.
